Big Hero 6 Wiki

De-Based is the second half of the fifty-seventh episode of Big Hero 6: The Series. It premiered on November 9, 2020 and is the second segment of the seventh episode of Season 3 alongside "The New Nega-Globby".

Synopsis[]

When Basemax opens a spam e-mail, she gets infected with a virus.

Plot[]

Hiro, Baymax, Mini-Max and Fred are at Frederickson Candy Co., where Hiro is busy syncing Basemax with all of the team's robots. Fred had bought Noodle Burgers for the whole team, but Wasabi, Honey Lemon and Go Go are absent, so he continuously sends them text messages which they never respond.

After he starts eating everyone else's Noodle Burgers because he doesn't want them to be wasted, Fred thinks they may have responded via e-mail, so Basemax checks his inbox. Seeing that there is a single, unopened message, Basemax warns Fred not to view it because it's from a questionable unknown sender. Fred however thinks it's a "mystery" message and urges Basemax to open it, quickly seeing that it's from "a member of the royal family of Spamibia who needs Fred's help". Before Hiro can tell Fred it's a spam e-mail, Fred opens the link inside, causing Basemax to catch a virus instantly. Hiro quickly tries to reboot Basemax, but the process is corrupted and Basemax is taken over by "The Queen of Spamibia", making Basemax talk like a medieval character as she begins attacking the team because they refuse to "kneel before her".

Hiro, Fred and Mini-Max run to the Sim-Max room but Baymax stays behind because he is slow. In the training room, the Queen orders the training robots to attack them whilst calling them her knights. Hiro attempts to call Skymax to bring them their suits, but the Skymax bots have also been corrupted as Fred's Skymax destroys his kaiju suit. It is then that Wasabi, Honey and Go Go break into the base through the training room, destroying the training bots and saving the others. They quickly sneak into the factory floor to shut down the base, where Wasabi, Honey and Go Go explain that they knew Hiro and Fred were in trouble because Fred suddenly stopped sending them annoying mesages.

Mini-Max tries to shut down the base by pulling a lever, but is stopped by Baymax, now calling himself "Baymaximus, the Sorcerer of Spamibia" and at the same time infecting Mini-Max to become the "Sorcerer's Apprentice". The human heroes are thrown outside by the base's bots, when suddenly Mega-Max rises as "The Ogre King" to attack as well. Hiro believes he can shut Basemax down from the generator room, so Go Go gives him a ride in her mag-lev disc to enter through a vent. The others continue to fight outside while Hiro is stopped by the Queen, who constantly changes the real shutdown button to make it harder for Hiro to stop her. Fred ends up falling in the same vent while the rest try to shield themselves with Honey's chem-ball dome, until Fred rolls into the generator room and accidentally presses the correct button with his face, shutting down every bot before Mega-Max crushed the rest of the team.

The room overheats and explodes, sending Hiro and Fred out, but they're saved by Baymax and Mini-Max, respectively. Mini-Max mentions that he has no memory of what happened while he was infected, and the team thank Hiro for saving them. Yet, Hiro tells them it was actually Fred who saved them. Go Go protests by saying that the situation was also his fault, though Fred claims he "learned a lesson" from it. Hiro claims the lesson is to never let him check his e-mail by himself, but Fred says it actually was that he won't eat more than 3 Noodle Burgers, though also saying he can learn more than one thing at a time. Despite this, he notices that he received yet another spam message and opens it before his friends can stop him, starting yet another alarm that upsets the rest of the team.

Trivia[]

  • The episode's title is a play on words. While the word debase means "to lower in quality", in the context of the episode, the usage of the de- suffix in de-base is more akin to "to remove" (such as in the word dethrone), as the plot involves Big Hero 6 being kicked out of their base by Basemax.
  • This is the second time that Baymax and Mini-Max are reprogrammed and turn against Big Hero 6, after "Countdown to Catastrophe" and "Mini-Maximum Trouble".
  • Basemax/Queen of Spamibia saying "Off with their heads" is a reference to the Queen of Hearts' catchphrase from Alice's Adventures in Wonderland.
  • Mini-Max being dubbed "Sorcerer's Apprentice" is a reference to a poem of the same name.
  • It's possible that the spam e-mail being about "a Royal Family asking for Fred's help" is simply a reference to the Nigerian prince letters, which are a common form of scam e-mails in real life.
  • This episode marks the last appearance of Basemax, Skymax and Mega-Max in the series.

Errors[]

  • In the final scene, Wasabi is suddenly missing his visor.
