“ | If you stop me, you save all of Tokyo, but damn the world to more wars, more fighting! So, which of us is truly the hero? | ” |
Deadline is a Marvel Comics character who faced Sunfire and Big Hero 6 on separate occasions.
Background[]
Dr. Kishi Oramosha was once known as Japan's most respected businessman who provided the funds for a science building in Tokyo. During his introduction speech, Oramosha intended to make people aware of the crises that the world faced and revealed that his building integrated a powerful machine known as the "Doomsday Device". With this machine, he claimed that a deadline would be established for the world to either set aside their differences and work together, or see the world be destroyed. He affirmed that he reluctantly assumed the role of this "deadline", thus gaining his alias.
Due to its lack of superheroes, Oramosha marked Tokyo as the first city to be destroyed, but knew that Sunfire, one of the few Japanese superheroes at the time, would probably try to stop him, and so was prepared for his appearance with fighting gear.
Appearance[]
Oramosha is a white-haired elderly Japanese man. He wears a tweed suit, complete with a bowtie.
Personality[]
Dr. Oramosha was a brilliant businessman but had flawed extremist morals. Despite being apparently anti-war and worrying about the future, he believed that only by threatening the whole world at once, humanity would unite to achieve peace and instead pay attention to bigger problems such as starvation and environmental issues. Yet, he also believed that if people refused to come together, then the destruction he planned to cause would have been deserved.
Powers and Abilities[]
- Genius-level intellect: While Deadline has no real abilities, he is a genius on technology and can handle different kinds of weapons and machines.
Equipment[]
- Goggles: In his first appearance he used a pair of goggles to protect his eyes from the blinding brightness of his Doomsday Device.
- Exo-skeleton: Oramosha used an exo-skeleton in his fight against Sunfire, which enhanced his physical strength.
- Tech-goggles: Seemingly wired into his head, the goggles were used when he invaded the Six Building. Their exact purpose is unrevealed, but they might just be an upgraded version of his first goggles.
- Heat blaster: A large gun with a red glowing barrel.
- Adhesive gun: Originally belonged to another villain called Kuro Gaki. Deadline stole it from Big Hero 6's confiscated technology room to attack Ebon Samurai. The gun only shoots black spheres of adhesive goo.
History[]
Sunfire attended Oramosha's first speech under his student alter-ego of Shiro Yoshida, but quickly leaped into action when Oramosha revealed his true intentions. At first he battles Deadline, but quickly realizing how immense his machine's power was, aimed for it instead. Struggling, Sunfire manages to channel solar power directly into the device, blowing it up. Consequently, Deadline is arrested, but is nevertheless glad that he could raise some awareness about his views.
Long after, Deadline makes a return attacking Big Hero 6's base in an attempt to rebuild his Doomsday Device. As the heroes find themselves unable to beat him, Honey Lemon hides inside her Power Purse, accidentally travelling across the Microverse where she meets an extra-dimensional princess known as Lumina from the planet Coronar. Honey helps Lumina expel a cultist group who took over her homeworld, and in return Lumina agrees to help her and Big Hero 6 as she now owed Honey a "soul debt". Both girls come out of the purse only to find that Deadline already managed to take over Big Hero 6's headquarters, but thanks to Lumina's abilities, Deadline is beaten once again while his new Doomsday Device is confiscated and locked away in the Big Hero 6 HQ.
After some time, the scientist returns a third time and manages to break into the Big Hero 6 base one night when the whole team was absent, even though Hiro had upgraded their security following Deadline's first attack. Yet, Lumina (now known as Sunpyre, as she had since become an official member of Big Hero 6) and the Ebon Samurai arrive at the base around the same time and find Oramosha while he is sneaking around. Deadline then shoots Sunpyre with a heat blaster, but as he is unaware that Sunpyre is immune to any kind of heat attack, she feigns damage and lays on the floor only to wait for the right moment to strike back. Ebon Samurai chases Deadline to the lab where his Doomsday Device was being kept. Both engage in a fight as Deadline monologues his plan to the Samurai, and even though he dismisses it as madness, Sunpyre also hears this, agreeing with his reasonings instead as she had recently ran away from her homeworld due to similar issues happening there. As such, she allies with the scientist and fights her teammate, under the belief Deadline was actually doing the right thing and she was just trying to save her friends. Delighted by the turn of events, Oramosha meanwhile gets to his machine to set it up.
Ebon Samurai soon overpowers Sunpyre thanks to the demonic power from his katana, which also causes him to lose all emotion as he proceeds to ruthlessly attack Deadline, severing one of his hands and slicing the Doomsday Device to bits. The scared Oramosha begins whimpering as the Samurai prepares to annihilate him by stabbing him in the heart, but Sunpyre arrives in time to help Ebon regain control and spare the villain's life. Both heroes make amends for their behavior and restrain Oramosha using an adhesive gun, as they decide they will immediately travel to Coronar to help Lumina's people, agreeing to leave it up to the other members of Big Hero 6 to find the glued Oramosha and have him arrested as soon as they arrived.
