“ | Trust me. Together—with your son... and with Sunfire—we will make Japan great again! | ” |
The Everwraith is a psychic manifestation from the Big Hero 6 series by Marvel.
Background[]
Everwraith is the evil astral embodiment of all the deceased souls of people who died in the bombings of Nagasaki and Hiroshima during World War II.
Initially, Everwraith planned revenge against the U.S. for many decades, but he eventually came to admire how much Japan had progressed from the same nuclear bombings all those years later. This made the Everwraith believe that by causing another catastrophe, it would force the nation of Japan to become even stronger and more advanced than before, and so his plans shifted to find a way to achieve such an act.
Appearance[]
Despite being an entity made up of many people, Everwraith has the appearance of a male. His body sometimes has fair-tone skin, and other times he is fully monochromatic or transparent.
Powers and Abilities[]
Everwraith possesses many supernatural abilities.
- Intangibility: Since he is an astral embodiment, Everwraith can make his body intangible.
- Phasing: While intangible, he could go through Silver Samurai's body and defeat him.
- Flight: Everwraith can hover and move in the air.
- Reconstruction: Though Silver Samurai sliced him, Everwraith could easily reform back to his shape.
- Teletransportation: Everwraith could teleport Maemi Takachiho to another place, making it seem as if she had combusted.
- Force field creation: Created one while protecting Doc Ock's missile.
- Necroplasmic blasts: Everwraith used this to control Sunfire's power, attempting to cause an atomic blast and destroy Japan.
History[]
Everwraith made his presence known by kidnapping Maemi Takachiho, then ambushing Hiro Takachiho and Monster Baymax at their house. Though at first it appeared as if he killed Maemi, Everwraith revealed to Hiro that she had only been transported elsewhere. He blackmails Hiro, sending him to the Giri Headquarters to obtain information about Sunfire for him in exchange for his mother.
As Hiro storms the Giri HQ, Everwraith explains to Maemi his plans while looking over the city of Tokyo. However, Hiro is stopped by Big Hero 6 members Silver Samurai, Go-Go Tomago and Honey Lemon, so the boy panics while explaining the situation to them. They take Hiro to see Sunfire laying on his "deathbed", causing Hiro to become disappointed in him because he won't fight, then deciding to face Everwraith without Sunfire.
Hiro, Baymax and Big Hero 6 arrive to confront Everwraith in the streets, but their attacks all seem futile against the ghostly villain. It is then that a weakened Sunfire shows up to the fight, not knowing that Everwraith's plan all along was to siphon his powers and cause a massive explosion, using several solar panels which he hid around the streets to amplify it.
Working as a team, Silver Samurai and Honey Lemon try to fight Everwraith while Baymax saves Maemi, Go-Go tries destroying the panels (but fails to do so as Everwraith had already planned ahead) and Hiro helps Sunfire realize that he was never dying and had only been lied to. Enraged to hear this, Sunfire releases his full concentrated power against the solar panels, destroying them and saving the city, seemingly killing both Everwraith and himself in the process as well. Soon though, it's revealed that Sunfire survived and was just laying low as he planned to fly to Canada in order to find out why he was lied to about the condition he got told was killing him.
Everwraith lived on as well, as he returned long after, during the Spider-Man "Ends of the Earth" storyline, when a dying Doctor Octopus recruited several villains from across the world to protect his missile launch bases, which he would use to fire at the ozone layer and set the Earth completely ablaze, so that people would remember him long after his death. The Everwraith acceded to this due to the fact Otto's scheme would also destroy Japan and finally let him achieve his goal.
On the other hand, Spider-Man, Silver Sable and Black Widow also communicated with superheroes from across the globe after the Avengers were defeated by the Sinister Six. Including the Giri and Big Hero 6, Spider-Man let them know about Ock's plan and his alliance with Everwraith, requesting their help. Shockingly, Everwraith manages to beat the newest Big Hero 6 member, Fred, and stalls the heroes for a while, but his own defeat came about once again when Honey Lemon "borrowed" an energy conversion blaster from Mr. Fantastic by reaching into her Power Purse, using it to destablize a force field Everwraith created to protect the missile—then getting knocked out by Go-Go, leaving him to be captured by the Giri's Yokai Containment Unit. Baymax then disabled the missile while Wasabi No-Ginger destroyed Doc Ock's Octobots, eventually leading to Spider-Man foiling Ock's plan.
