Furi Wamu is a high-level Japanese Homeland Security agent.

She is the founder of the Big Hero 6 team.

Background[]

Furi is the operational head of the exotic assets division of Homeland Security in Japan.

In the past, she discovered six dangerous crystal artifacts and witnessed their power, which cost her an eye. Furi also fought against Badgal, who managed to get away and promised to one day take control of Furi with her powers. Throughout the years, Furi kept attempting to catch Badgal but failed to succeed.

Furi also joined the Giri Corporation and created the superhero team Big Hero 6, which recruited superhuman individuals to protect Japan.

Personality[]

Furi cares about her friends, but can easily get upset. She is very intelligent, follows her own instincts, and due to her experience is always prepared for everything.

She constantly watches over Hiro Takachiho's activities.

Appearance[]

She has short hair which was brown during her first appearance but was later dyed blonde. She also had a special prosthetic eye, though she eventually destroyed it and began wearing an eye patch instead.

While undercover in New York, she also wore glasses.

Powers and Abilities[]

Equipment[]

  • Prosthetic Eye: It was a fake eyeball that she used after losing her left eye. Unlike a regular prosthetic eye, Furi's eyeball could absorb the Gunsmith's essence into it, allowing her to get rid of the entity sometime after being possessed by it.
  • Glowing guns: Upon being transformed into the Gunsmith, she acquired two glowing guns of unspecified material as her primary weapons.

History[]

Furi spies on Hiro when he witnesses an astronomical phenomenon that happened on New York's coast. She also hacks into the cyber-network of Hiro's computer-glasses to keep track of him while he is at school, but Baymax finds out and cuts the connection even though Hiro himself hadn't noticed before.

After Big Hero 6 fight Gunsmith, Brute and Whiplash, Hiro creates a hologram of the scene and finds that, at the same time the fight happened, a group of mysterious agents had entered the Sagahara Bank, but there had been no reports of any theft. At that moment, Furi introduces herself to Hiro and Baymax inside their system and become surprised that she was able to infiltrate inside without Baymax noticing. Furi reveals to them that she is the creator of Big Hero 6 and proceeds to explain that there had been other similar thefts in other continents over the past year, then tells Hiro that Big Hero 6 will be sent to New York as the final artifact was located there, figuring that the mysterious thief would also try to go there. Hiro questions her choice, claiming that they could just call in the Avengers instead, but Furi replies that she was the person who originally discovered the crystals and not even the Avengers know how dangerous they were.

The next day, Hiro explains the situation to his team, and Furi is appointed to oversee them and serve as tactical support. They are sent to Southport, New York and ordered to protect Keigi Iosama (who researched the artifact) and his daughter, Marys Iosama. Due to time zone difference, the team arrives at the U.S. on the very same day they left Japan, and they meet their latest new member, Fred upon arrival.

Furi cooks breakfast for the team, though Wasabi No-Ginger appears to dislike it just by seeing it. Furi tells Go-Go Tomago and Honey Lemon to change into more proper school clothes, though both refuse so Furi reluctantly lets them go. Both girls try to prank Fred as a "welcome" into the team but instead end up causing a quarrel among the team (except Hiro and Marys), causing Furi to nag both and finally getting them to change their clothing. Big Hero 6 are enrolled in the Southport High School while undercover to protect Marys, so while they're gone Furi goes to a disease research center at Plum Island where she discusses with Dr. Iosama about the bank theft and the power of the crystals.

During Dr. Iosama's day off, Furi goes to Southport High School with him, Marys, and Big Hero 6 to watch a football game in which Wasabi and Go-Go played. Dr. Iosama is soon called by the Plum Island research team who told him that there was an emergency, so he has to leave immediately but tells Furi that she may stay at the game if she wants. Regardless, Furi decides to go with him as she claims her responsibility is to keep him safe, so she puts Baymax in charge of the team, jokingly telling him to let her know the final score later.

Unknown to them, Badgal was the person who had been hired to steal the crystals and she had possessed Honey Lemon during the game, sending her to attack Plum Island after both had arrived. After the football game ends, Baymax receives an emergency transmission, causing the team to rush to the island.

Once they arrive, Honey Lemon begins to attack them and she is soon joined by both Furi and Iosama, who were also brainwashed into becoming Badgal's minions. During the rough fight, Hiro and Marys make their way inside the lab where they find Badgal, who makes the Brute entity take over Marys' body and attack Hiro. Badgal calls Furi/Gunsmith to finish him off, but she knocks Badgal out instead, causing her possession effect to fade off from Marys and Dr. Iosama, therefore saving the team. Hiro is surprised and Furi explains that her prosthetic eye had been absorbing the energy used to control her, then proceeds to remove the fake eyeball and crush it. With Badgal now defeated, Furi retrieved the crystals and tied her up, but still had questions about who hired her. At that moment, Wasabi turned on the lab's monitors and detected more signs of life, so the team went further under the lab to investigate. Soon, they find a recently-crashed alien spaceship containing many small aliens in space-suits, which turned out to be what caused the incident which Hiro had detected the day before they were sent to America.

As the FBI approached the island, Furi ordered to leave Badgal with the aliens so that the team could go back to the surface of the island and come up with a cover-up story to keep Big Hero 6's identities secret: they claimed that Baymax was Furi's robot pet and Big Hero 6 were simply Marys' classmates who went to the island to pick up Marys' father and celebrate their victory at the school's football match, but when they arrived the trio of villains who attacked Tokyo before was now attacking the island and then escaped.

The American authorities believed the story, so the team's taken back to their house at Southport and set to be sent back to Japan the next day, though Furi and Baymax were kept in a cell at Plum Island in the meantime. The rest of the team soon made their way back to Plum Island to deal with Badgal and the aliens, but Go-Go and Fred had to attack the police to cause a distraction; Baymax watched them through a hologram while talking with Furi about Fred and his kaiju aura ability, as they were unable to do anything besides waiting.

In the morning, the police track the team down and find them at the Martin's Landing shore, where they all see the alien spaceship take off while the heroes pretend to know nothing about it or what happened earlier. However, the FBI agents demand to know who they really are and eventually find out their real identities. They are put in custody again for several days, but Furi resolves the situation by making an unknown deal with some people. Eventually, the team returns to Japan and life goes back to normal for everyone, with Big Hero 6 waiting for the next time they will be needed.

In The Amazing Spider-Man arc "Ends of the Earth", Doctor Octopus sets missiles in different parts of the world, including Japan, threatening to destroy the ozone layer to burn the Earth. Everwraith guards the missile in Downtown Tokyo, but on the other hand, Spider-Man, Silver Sable and Black Widow recruit Big Hero 6 to help take down the missile in their country.

Furi Wamu aids Big Hero 6 by driving a jet to drop Fred in the scene and attack the villain. After Everwraith is knocked out from the battle, Baymax attempts to defuse the missile after it's launched but it explodes and seemingly destroys Baymax. However, a few moments later, Furi lets the team know that Baymax is alright, as he is seen hanging from her jet.
