Bot Fighting is a robot fighting sport in which contestants build small remote-controlled robots and have them battle for supremacy.

Bot fighting itself is not illegal and is in fact a popular sport in San Fransokyo, but betting on it is illegal and could result in imprisonment. Many underground bot-fights allow betting and even hold full tournaments, which makes it lucrative.

The rules for underground bot fights are that the players use their own robots (known as "Battlebots"[1]) to fight and the winner would keep the money from both sides once their bot has defeated the opponent's bot. The robot that wins a round will keep fighting until all other bots are destroyed or it is destroyed. To play a round the players must pay in cash and hand it over to the ringleader for safe keeping until the round is over, and the paid money is handed over to the winner. These competitions usually take place in shady and dangerous places of the city, such as Good Luck Alley.

Despite the questionable legitimacy of the underground bot-fights, they are advertised through posters, along with the time and places of the fights on some websites.

Trivia[]

  • Sometimes the sport's title (and its variations) is written as "Bot Fighting" without a hyphen in the middle, but some other media and instances write it with a hyphen ("Bot-Fighting").
  • The now-defunct app game Big Hero 6: Bot Fight was based on the sport.
  • At the Disneyland San Fransokyo Square attraction, Megabot, Snips, and Little Yama appear in Maker's Market, alongside Worm Bot, Cerberus Bot, and Smash Bot from the television series.
