| “ | You are a very special young man, Hiro, and your father and I are proud of you. | ” |
Maemi Takachiho is a character in Marvel's Big Hero 6 comic series.
Background[]
Maemi is the widowed wife of Tomeo Takachiho and mother of Hiro. From a young age, the couple became aware of their son's superior intellect and discussed the kinds of offers people would make in exchange for Hiro's genius—coming to the agreement to let their child enjoy his youth instead. Following her husband's death, Maemi raised Hiro on her own while still carrying her husband's will.
Appearance[]
She is a Japanese woman with black hair and fair skin. In Sunfire & Big Hero 6, her hair is done in a bun and she wears a green sweater with a black skirt, also having white pearl earrings.
In the 2008 Big Hero 6 run, she is instead seen wearing a pink button-shirt in addition to her now using glasses and sporting a shorter haircut.
Personality[]
Maemi shows great love for Hiro and her husband even after the latter passed away, being constantly reminded of him due to Hiro's similar mannerisms.
History[]
When the Giri Corporation assembled a line-up for the newly formed superhero team Big Hero 6, the organization took interest in Hiro as a potential recruit thanks to his advanced intellect. As such, Silver Samurai asks Maemi for her permission, but she declines. The Samurai then decides to instead ask Hiro directly, but the boy obeys his mother's wishes and gives the same answer.
One night, Hiro and Baymax return home after having snuck out in search of Sunfire only to find a mysterious evil figure who has apparently vaporized Maemi. The villain assures them that Maemi had merely been transported away, blackmailing Hiro into obtaining information from the Giri about Sunfire should he want to see his mother again.
Hoping that they would lure Sunfire to him, Everwraith waits for their return with a captive Maemi, monologuing his plan to her. When the heroes show up to fight the villain, Baymax locates Maemi and safely drags her away from danger.
She also has a minor role in the first issue of 2008's Big Hero 6, where she is seen making breakfast for Hiro before sending him off to school.
Trivia[]
- In early drafts for the 2014 Big Hero 6 film, Cass was originally written as Hiro's mother. In the final product, she is changed to be Hiro's aunt, and his parents are instead written as deceased since Hiro was 3 years old. It is however never stated whether they had the same names as their Marvel counterparts.
