Obake Chips are programming chips originally created by Obake and used throughout Big Hero 6: The Series.
Description[]
The chips are violet with Obake's emblem on it. They are identical in shape to the rest of Baymax's Chips.
History[]
Though not shown on-screen, the first Obake chip is implied to be created in "Killer App" to reprogram Noodle Burger Boy. In later episodes, the Obake chip is indeed seen in Noodle Burger Boy's chip port.
In "Countdown to Catastrophe", Noodle Burger Boy inserts a chip in Baymax's port when Hiro wasn't present in a fight alongside his teammates, as it had been planned by Obake. Because of this, Hiro doesn't suspect anything and doesn't check Baymax's port. Later, under Obake's control, Baymax deceives Hiro by falsely alerting him about "Obake" being detected nearby, and manipulates him into going to fight the decoy by claiming it's for the greater good and telling him that Tadashi would've wanted him to stop Obake. After they find the decoy and defeat him, Hiro asks Baymax how he could've mistaken the robot for the real Obake, but Baymax simply replies that he doesn't know. Unknown to Hiro, the fight was a distraction so that Obake could steal Hiro's Energy Amplifier from SFIT, and arrives late as he sees Obake leaving with it.
Soon, Hiro realizes something is wrong with Baymax when he doesn't respond to his pain groans from the damage taken in the previous battle, so he opens his chip port. Hiro sees the Obake chip, but Baymax aggressively grabs his arm to stop him from removing it and takes him to Obake's lair. Obake explains his plan to Hiro and gives him the chance to join him, but after he refuses, Hiro is thrown in a cell. However, he soon escapes with the help of Globby after the latter realized the insanity of Obake's plan, who intended to destroy all of San Fransokyo with the amplifier's power in order to rebuild a "better world" according to him. Hiro, Globby, and Big Hero 6 come up with a plan to stop Obake, but Baymax remained by Obake's side at that point.
After Obake's plan is foiled, Obake becomes despondent because he believed there was no way his plan could've failed, but Hiro proved to be smarter than him in doing so. Due to this, Obake decides to remove the chip from Baymax and allows him to return to him safely while he accepts his defeat and stays in his lair, which was falling apart due to the shockwave created by Hiro to stop the amplifier's power. Eventually, Hiro and Baymax return to search for Obake at the bottom of the sea but find no signs of his body, and the chip is seen covered by sand unnoticed by them.
In "Internabout", Noodle Burger Boy manages to escape from the remains of Obake's lair and makes it back to land, but found himself malfunctioning due to all the time spent underwater. He also rescues Trina and takes her to Obake's old warehouse hideout, but leaves her to find someone who can repair him while Trina fixes herself. Eventually, Noodle Burger Boy kidnaps Alistair Krei, taking him and Hiro to the Noodle Burger Factory in order to blackmail Hiro into fixing him without removing his Obake chip, or Krei would perish. Meanwhile, Trina built an upgraded body for herself and returned to the bottom of the sea, also searching for her "father" Obake but only managing to find his chip which she keeps, and later finds out that it includes Obake's plan in its coding. At the factory, Hiro finishes repairing Noodle Burger Boy and sees the opportunity to take the Obake chip out, but at that moment Trina breaks in to save her "brother". Krei is saved by Hiro while the robot siblings make their escape.
Sometime later, while Big Hero 6 faced their own issues, Trina planned to replicate her father's plan and joined Krei Tech behind the scenes to make the company manufacture an army of Buddy Guardians equipped with Obake chips (under the guise of being normal chips), then the robots are sold to the San Fransokyo Police Department. In "Legacies", the robots are activated with their fake programming and help the SFPD stop criminals. Hiro and Megan Cruz steal one of the Buddy Guardian's chips when Hiro becomes suspicious about them, and while trying to read their programming, they find out that the chip was coded with Obake's plan, causing Hiro to become anxious as he believed Obake had returned. However, Hiro soon discovers that it was Trina all along as she assures him Obake died because she searched for him too but never found him. In the final battle against her, after the Buddy Guardians' true purpose is revealed, Hiro uses Mega-Max and an army of Megabots to remove the Guardians' chips and replace them with copies of Baymax's healthcare chip, stopping Trina's plot and taking her away. During the fight, Noodle Burger Boy is launched away, so he manages to escape being captured once again as he returns to their hideout soon after his sister's defeat.
Watching the aftermath of Big Hero 6's victory, Noodle Burger Boy resented the fact that the heroes took his "family" away from him, but quickly found a box of Obake chips, becoming encouraged to "start a family of his own" and take revenge against Big Hero 6. With the chips, he reprograms the mascot of the San Fransokyo Zoo, Hangry Panda; followed by Crushroom from Vegan-nam Café, and later Hyper-Potamus from the Hyper-Potamus Pizza-Party-Torium. With his three new "sisters", Noodle Burger Boy announces to Big Hero 6 they will become a big problem for them, and the newly-formed family returns to the warehouse hideout to plot new ways to take over the city.
In "The MiSFIT", the mascot robots attempt to turn SFIT into a school for robots and came close to re-inserting an Obake chip into Baymax, until Hiro appears and stops them from doing so. With the help of Rishi Patel, Hiro defeats the mascots, who soon decide to retreat.
In "Noodle Burger Ploy", the mascots trick Fred with a fake e-mail into going to their hideout and telling them information about himself to create a robot duplicate, in order to infiltrate Big Hero 6 and ask them about the location of their secret base to blow it up. Noodle Burger Boy has his Obake chip removed and inserted into the Fred-bot, who goes out to ask the team members about it. Baymax was shut down at the time and couldn't detect he was a robot, while the rest of the team did not realize Fred had been replaced, but he was still unsuccessful in getting the information due to different circumstances. As Noodle Fred soon finds himself with the rest of Big Hero 6 fighting El Fuego, his sisters realize he was about to blow his cover, so they rush to help him and capture El Fuego, but this behavior only makes Big Hero 6 realize that Noodle Fred is an impostor. Fred escapes from the mascots' lair and soon arrives with his friends to explain he was replaced, so the mascots take the Obake chip out of Noodle Fred and return to their base, leaving the robot's body with the team.
In "The Mascot Upshot", Hiro finally sees the chance to put an end to the mascots and devises a plan. Fighting them at the Noodle Burger restaurant when they attempt to steal the Noodle Burger Boy statue, Go Go plants a bug on Crushroom's head to spy on them. The mascots return to their base after they fail to take the statue and it falls down, so Big Hero 6 overhears them from their base, learning that the siblings are planning to add a new member to their family because they are always outnumbered when fighting the heroes. Hiro sends Mini-Max undercover to join them, but also contacts Momakase in secret to help in their plan since she owed him a favor.
Mini-Max arrives with the mascots at the dump when they hold "auditions" for a new sibling, and claims that he switched sides without Big Hero 6's knowledge. Though the mascots already know he is acting because they noticed the obvious-looking bug they planted on Crushroom, they claim to accept Mini-Max as their new brother, and bond with him for the rest of the day. At night, Mini-Max tells them he will return to Big Hero 6's base to trick them into a trap. Back with the heroes, they tell him he did a good job but now needs to bring the mascots to the Noodle Burger Factory for their final battle, so Mini-Max does so by telling the robots that he plotted a trap for Big Hero 6 at the factory. When Big Hero 6 arrives at the factory, the mascots laugh as they tell Mini-Max that they already knew he was trying to double-cross them, so they only played along but actually made Momakase their "new sister" instead. Though this shocked Big Hero 6 as Momakase swiftly entered and stole their weapons, she also removed Noodle Burger Boy's chip before anyone could notice. As Noodle Burger Boy finally goes offline, Hiro reveals this was part of his true plan and Momakase returns their equipment, shocking everyone. Noodle Burger Boy's sisters try to escape as they fear for their lives, but ultimately, Big Hero 6 stops them as they manage to remove the Obake chips from each one.
With the mascots defeated, Mini-Max becomes worried about their fate, because during his time with them he realized all they really wanted was a family, despite their evil programming from the Obake chips. Hiro tells Mini-Max that heroes help everyone, so he decides to give the robots a second chance and takes them all to Lucky Cat Café, where they start a new life as a family with Aunt Cass as their new "mother", while each mascot takes a different role working at the café.
