Big Hero 6 Wiki

The Dog Craze of Summer is the second half of the fifty-second episode of Big Hero 6: The Series. It premiered on September 28, 2020 and is the second segment of the second episode of Season 3 alongside "Mayor for a Day".

Synopsis[]

Hiro enlists the help of the team when Granville's three dogs go missing while under his watch.

Plot[]

Hiro plays Wormhole 1 and Wormhole 2 at Lucky Cat Café, when Professor Granville enters and greets Hiro. He jumps out of surprise, and Granville asks him if he's busy because she wants to ask him for a favor. Baymax reveals to her that all Hiro has been doing is play videogames all day and night to prepare for the release of Wormhole 3, so Granville sees that he's indeed not busy and mentions that the favor is paid; Aunt Cass hears this and urges Hiro to accept because it will be like a "summer job"—but also takes his videogames away until he's done so he won't be distracted. Hiro, Baymax and Granville then go outside where Granville shows them her three dogs: Curie, Fermi and Oppenheimer, telling Hiro that he'll have to take care of the dogs while she attends a STEM conference for the day. Granville gives Hiro a huge book of instructions and a truck arrives to deliver boxes of supplies for the job, explaining the dogs have "quirks," then leaves in a taxi. Cass goes outside to tell her nephew how she's proud that he's finally getting a job that is not illegal but quickly goes back in when a client asks for a refill. At that moment, Fred calls Hiro because he cannot beat the final boss of Wormhole 2, so Hiro, believing the job is easy money, takes the dogs to Fred's house as he thinks he can help Fred and take care of the dogs at the same time.

In order to do this, Hiro builds a system in Fred's yard to give the dogs all the attention they need without him being present, although Baymax says this isn't a good idea since he has read Granville's manual and thinks Hiro should too. Yet, Hiro ignores him and goes inside to play videogames with Fred. The dogs however tear down the invention and Fermi runs away, so Hiro becomes nervous after he sees the disaster and doesn't know what to do. Fred calms him down and calls their friends for help, but Go Go initially refuses, claiming it's Hiro's mess and he has to solve it himself. Hiro begs until he convinces them, and asks Go Go and Honey Lemon to watch Curie while Fred and Wasabi to return all the stuff that Oppenheimer kept "fetching" back to their owners, while Hiro and Baymax go out to look for Fermi.

As Baymax and Hiro search for the dog outside, Baymax keeps telling Hiro that Granville's manual could help, but Hiro insists they don't have time and Fermi could be in trouble. They see Fermi across the street but the dog runs away again before they're able to cross, so Hiro decides to get their armors to make things easier. At Fred's house, Curie starts to chew on Honey Lemon's Chem-Purse after she leaves it unattended, causing a mess in Fred's room and accidentally breaking Honey Lemon's glasses until Go Go throws Fred's videogame at the purse, causing it to explode and temporarily shrinking Curie in the process. Meanwhile, Fred and Wasabi return a dinosaur bone that Oppenheimer stole back to the San Fransokyo Museum of Art—but then Oppenheimer disappears, quickly returning with Baron Von Steamer's mechanical arm. On the other hand, Fermi roamed the city and plays with Felony Carl and Globby for a while until he begins to miss his toy crab Mr. Pip, then leaves Carl and Globby. When night comes, Hiro and Baymax finally find Fermi but the dog keeps running away until he enters an abandoned restaurant where Baymax finally calms him down by giving him the Mr. Pip toy.

Back at Lucky Cat Café once all problems were solved, Hiro tells his friends he had a manual ad supplies, upsetting Go Go and Wasabi as they realizes all the trouble could've been avoided if Hiro had been responsible and done his job as told. Granville comes in to pay Hiro and leave with her dogs, unaware of everything that really happened. Hiro feels satisfied with being paid, but then his friends suddenly start to take part of the money out of his hands due to all the problems they had to go through. Hiro understands it's all justified but is glad that at least he's left with enough to buy Wormhole 3, until Baron Von Steamer suddenly enters the Café to take back his mechanical arm and the rest of Hiro's money for the trouble he also went through, with Go Go, Honey Lemon, Wasabi, and Fred exclaiming it is fair.

Trivia[]

  • The title is a play on "The dog days of summer".
  • Aside from Baron Von Steamer showing up at the end and stealing the last of Hiro's money, this is the first episode without an antagonist.
    • The only other episode without antagonists is, debatably, "Return to Sycorax" if the monsters featured in it are considered only an illusion.
  • Granville's dogs are named after physicists Julius Robert Oppenheimer, Enrico Fermi and Marie Curie.
    • In real life, Fermi and Oppenheimer had involvement in the creation of the atomic bomb, while Curie conducted pioneering research on radioactivity.

Errors[]

  • In the movie, Fred asks for a shrinking ray but gets told that that is not real science. Yet in this episode, Curie gets shrunk to a miniature size through Honey Lemon's chem-balls.
  • As the episode is paired with "Mayor for a Day", Diedrich Bader is credited for voicing Bluff Dunder, but there's no credit for voicing Felony Carl.
