Big Hero 6 Wiki

You brought X to life! Now--Now you want to destroy X! But you shall not succeed! X is supreme, and all who defy him... perish!!

X the Unknowable is a creature from Marvel Comics that has clashed with Big Hero 6 and Alpha Flight in the past.

Background[]

A comic-book writer named Charles Bentley started using an enchanted typing machine to write fantasy stories about monsters. Charles had bought the typewriter in an old antique shop in Europe a year before, claiming that the dealer had a strange, knowing smile which he ignored at the time. Eventually, Bentley found out that his stories were becoming reality and the monsters he created attacked in real life, but didn't believe it was his fault and called them mere coincidences. Since the stories he wrote were selling well, Bentley's editor requested a more suspenseful and thrilling story.

Bentley then came up with a story involving a monster from another dimension and named it "X" to make it more mysterious, making it arrive on Earth out of nowhere and shapeshift into anything it desired. Unlike his previous stories, Bentley decided not to kill off X so that he could write a sequel to the comic by next month. When Bentley's editor received the story, he was greatly impressed by it and gave Charles a week of vacation and bonus pay as he considered it the greatest fantasy story of Bentley's career.

Charles left the town and drove to a resort in the mountains for his vacation, but after arriving he saw that people were worriedly looking at the television. He then found out that X had become a reality, despite all logic and reason against it, so he was finally convinced that his monster stories were not coincidences and everything he wrote somehow became true. Realizing that "X" was the only story where humanity didn't conquer the monster, he urgently asked for a typewriter and a man in the crowd lent him one.

Bentley sat down and began thinking about how he could destroy a monster that he had designed to be practically invincible, so he thought that Earth germs could be the solution to it. Charles sent the story to his editor, asking him to replace the original ending with the new one he wrote, and the story seemed to work since the real-world X started feeling ill and was unable to shapeshift, until it finally fell.

Several days passed at the resort mountains, but Bentley turned on the TV and was shocked to see that X still lived. He was unable to understand why, but soon figured out that his original typewriter must have been the power behind the stories after remembering the strange man who sold it to him. He then rushed to his car and drove home to finish off X by writing his demise in the magic machine. On his way home, however, X appeared as he sensed that Bentley was his creator, and attempted to stop him from making it back home.

Charles got off the car and fought off his creation while running away until X lost sight of him. Bentley was able to reach his studio and sat down to write the same story as he did in the mountains, but X was able to find him because Charles had left papers with his name and address in the car. As he saw himself with no time to write a new story, Bentley's only option was smashing the typewriter and hoping that would work. He threw it out the window, and as the machine was shattered, X also started to vanish into nothingness. With the typewriter broken beyond repair, Charles Bentley was relieved that it would never be able to conjure up another monster again.

Appearance[]

Charles Bentley designed X to not have a definitive shape; by merely willing it, X is able to change his atomic structure into any form.

Personality[]

X was written to be completely hostile and regard the entire world as an enemy to be attacked and conquered. X was somehow also able to sense that Charles Bentley was his creator.

X is also capable of speaking but never did so during his encounter with Big Hero 6 and Alpha Flight.

Powers and Abilities[]

  • Shapeshfting: X is able to transform its atomic structure at will, allowing it to assume any shape and size. This ability, in turn, gives it even more abilities depending on the form it takes.

History[]

A long time after X's demise, a young Japanese boy named Tomi read Charles Bentley's original comic, having learned that X came to life with its drawings and stories, so he decided to do the same by writing his own comic. To build X's mysterious nature, Tomi drew the pages making it to first appear in a mountain, become gigantic, and walk backwards into Tokyo and into the Cool World Amusement Park, where it shrunk down to be able to show it to his friends. Big Hero 6's base was located in the park at the time and they saw the monster appearing out of apparently nowhere when it began to destroy the place, including their headquarters. The team fought the monster but were unable to damage it anyhow, so Hiro suggested that only Sunfire would know how to defeat it, then Honey Lemon pulled out a secret communicator from her Power Purse to call him, despite Silver Samurai's objections, who claimed that Sunfire had chosen his own path away from the team.

Sunfire was in Canada at the time with Alpha Flight when he received Honey Lemon's message on a nano-communicator hidden in his suit, and he quickly set off to Japan to help them. On the other hand, Alpha Flight decided to follow him, but their jet was far faster than Sunfire so they managed to arrive way sooner than him. By the time Alpha Flight arrived at the park, X had disappeared and Big Hero 6 cleaned up the disaster when they saw the Alpha Jet approach, although both teams were confused as Alpha Flight believed Sunfire would have arrived already while Big Hero 6 believed Sunfire would also arrive in the jet. Regardless, Alpha Flight helped with the clean-up and found Tomi's group of boy scout friends hiding. They mentioned that Tomi had promised them to show them "his monster", which caught the teams' attention. Hiro asked him about the monster, so the kid revealed what he did and showed the heroes his comic pages. Both teams took a look at the comic and indeed saw Cool World destroyed, but were skeptical if the rest of the events could happen in real life or if a kid's imagination was capable of turning real.

Guardian believed that Tomi was psychically aware and somehow could predict behaviors through his art, so he theorized that making him come up with a different ending could put an end to X. Hiro asked Baymax to scan the boy's story into his memory, and Manbot used visual scans to create the new ending told by Tomi in comic pages. Both parties teamed up and split up in 3 teams: Silver Samurai, Vindicator, Puck and Manbot followed the comic story to try tracking down X to its next location at Tomi's grandfather's hometown, where a nuclear plant was located and Tomi's neighborhood was close; Hiro, Baymax, Honey Lemon and Guardian followed X's giant footprints believing it could have headed to the mountain; while brothers Radius and Flex, as well as Go-Go Tomago, stayed at Cool World to wait for Sunfire's arrival. All teams also set a meeting point at Mount Fuji, where the "new ending" would take place in case it worked.

Hiro's team eventually saw the footprints meet a dead end, so Baymax reviewed the comic and found out that the prints were actually leading to X's origin as it had walked backwards into Cool World—so the team headed to Fuji upon seeing the monster wasn't there. Puck, Vindicator and Manbot waited for X at the power plant while Silver Samurai headed to the mount. On the other hand, Radius complained that he didn't want to stay and wait, so he began destroying teddy bears from the park, though one of them then started to grow in size and ate Radius, making the others realize that it was X, who never actually left the park. Before Go-Go could attack the bear to save Radius, Sunfire arrived and blasted it, but it only transformed into an enormous flying monster that headed to Mount Fuji as predicted.

With everyone now gathered at Fuji, Sunfire used his solar powers to attack X, rupturing Mount Fuji in the process but sinking X into the lava. Go-Go managed to save Radius before X sunk, so both teams waited to see if it was really the end or just another page in the comic. Manbot then printed out the comic for Hiro to read, seeing that in the new ending, Monster X turned into a human and married a beautiful princess. Both teams simply decided to accept this ending as they began to walk away from Mount Fuji—with Honey Lemon claiming she conveniently had a volcano cover in her Power Purse to repair the damage.
